Assessment and Grading System
The basic conditions for the end-of-semester grade are class attendance and writing the end-of-semester written test.
1. Attendance requirements
Attendance is mandatory at at least 70% of the contact classes. Attendance at the consultation sessions announced during the semester is recommended but not mandatory.
2. Written test
Writing a written test at the end of the teaching period is mandatory.
- Date of the test: the second-to-last week of the teaching period.
- Date of the make-up test: the last week of the teaching period.
Absence and make-up: If the student cannot attend either the regular test or the make-up test, a third make-up date can be granted only if they present a medical certificate covering both dates (the regular and the make-up test).
The course is automatically failed (grade 1) if the student does not write the test (or the make-up test, if eligible), or if its result is failing (1).
3. Determining the grade and the exam
If the test result is at least pass (2), the grade is determined as follows:
- Offered grade: Normally, if the test result is good (4) or excellent (5), the student can receive this grade as an offered end-of-semester grade. It is important to emphasize that granting an offered grade is always the instructor's decision. In making the decision, the instructor takes into account, besides the test result, the student's class activity throughout the semester.
- Oral exam: If the test result is pass (2) or satisfactory (3), or if the student does not receive an offered grade, they must take an oral exam in the exam period. The oral exam is not based on a pre-published list of topics: it assesses comprehensive knowledge of the whole semester's material.
4. Grading scale (for both the test and the exam)
Percentage results are converted into grades using the following thresholds:
| 1 |
2 |
3 |
4 |
5 |
| 0% – 40% |
41% – 55% |
56% – 70% |
71% – 85% |
86% – 100% |
