Homework – Usability test, findings, and mini UI guideline

Test the prototype with at least three relevant participants, evaluate the results, and refine the interface based on the findings. For the refined screens, put together a mini UI guideline, so that the visual decisions are consistent and justified.

Deliverables

  • a shareable Figma link with the updated prototype;
  • a test plan: learning goal (1–2), participant description, tasks with a scenario, success criterion, and the metrics to be recorded;
  • a consent statement or the text of the verbal briefing;
  • anonymized observation notes of at least three short usability tests (task, observation, quote, interpretation);
  • findings in order of severity, in the structure learned in the lesson;
  • the justification of the selected fixes, with a separate note on how they support the comprehensibility or accessibility of the main task;
  • a mini UI guideline in Figma: basic colors (with a contrast check), text styles, spacing, and the relevant button, input, and icon usage rules.

Evaluation criteria

  • The goal and tasks of the test fit the question of the prototype, the task does not reveal the solution.
  • In the notes, the observation, the quote, and the interpretation are separate.
  • A finding contains evidence, the affected task, and the consequence.
  • The visual decisions are justified (observation or an accessibility principle), they were not made on the basis of taste.
  • The contrast values meet the AA level, or the deviation is justified.

Note on scope

The assignment contains many elements, so it is worth starting the recruiting and testing in good time. The mini UI guideline can be short: a few colors, two or three text styles, one button rule and one input field rule are enough if they are consistent and justified.
